Shipped to New York City from the west coast in the early part of the 20th century, original face douglas fir offers a beautiful weathered patina that complements the dark to light reddish tones underneath it.
The original face douglas fir can be sanded down to a light, medium, or heavy finish, depending on how much of the original face you would like to keep or remove. The more it is sanded, the closer it will get back to its clean face, showing the beautiful variety of red tones of this old growth lumber native to the west coast.
After this amazing lumber has been sanded, we offer a finishing process with natural oil or wax to seal, protect, and beautify the lumber. The finishing process gets it closer to the color of its original dark warm look, but also allows it to be free of any roughness and finished so it can be used for a table, countertop, or any other finished furniture.
This option shows the dressed face of the douglas fir after its been planed down, which shows the beautiful range of warm red tones and pronounced growth rings that can be used naturally or be stained for paneling, flooring, tables and much more!
